Time to Catch Up

So, as always it's been busy.....where do I even begin?

Probably the oldest, biggest event was Alex starting preschool. Josh was in charge of dropping off that day and it did not go well. Alex did NOT want to stay and Josh almost gave in and took him home. By the end of the 2nd week Alex was in love with going to school and wants to go just about everyday. (What a relief!!) This year he is only going 2 days a week, but next year he'll go 3 days a week, and then he's off to public school! Time just goes by too fast.

Halloween was really fun this year. Alex wanted to dress as the Man in the Yellow Hat, from "Curious George" and he wanted Emi to be George, so that is what we did. Emi wasn't crazy about her costume, but she loved all of the candy. Alex on the other hand wore his costume every day for about a week....some nights he even had to wear it to bed.

They both did a great job walking around the block in my parents neighborhood. We made it about three quarters around the block before calling it a night. Alex wasn't as shy as last year and actually said "trick or treat" and "Happy Halloween", except to Grampy, he didn't want to say "trick or treat" to Grampy. Go figure! Emi is never shy, so she was happy to chat with anyone....until she got candy and then it was time to go to the next house.

We had a low-key Thanksgiving this year at my parents' house. Marsha came down and stayed with us for a few days, which was great because Josh and I got to do some Black Friday shopping. The two of us spent Thanksgiving night at a hotel next to Kohl's so we could be there bright and early for all the great deals. Josh even went to the Christmas Tree Shops and didn't kill anyone! Now I'm torn about what to do next year - go with the ladies to Massachusetts or stay home for the Black Friday super sales. Only time will tell......

Christmas was great. The kids are at the age where they really get excited about Santa and the festivities. Santa brought the kids tents for their bedrooms and plenty of other toys to clutter up the house. After opening presents at our house the family, including Marsha, went to my parents for dinner and another round of gift giving with Larry's family. It is sad to think that this may have been our last Christmas in that house. Who knows, maybe we'll get one more there.....

Christmas was followed by a quiet New Year's at our house. You know you're getting old when there is "quiet time" at a New Year's Eve party. Although we did have a good time, some of us even had too good of a time - Mr. Kennedy.

With the start of the new year we got to celebrate Emi's 2nd birthday in January. We has a small family party and just a couple of friends. Emi was so excited that people were coming to see her ..... and give her presents. She especially loved her Dora the Explorer flip out couch that Auntie got her. As soon as she opened it she said "My couch!" and sat right down and put her feet up. Too cute!

February brought Alex's birthday and our first kids-only party. Because of the way the dates fell this year we decided to do a kid party on Valentine's Day, so that all of the parents could take the night and go have a nice dinner and not worry about getting a baby-sitter. (Josh and I had Valentine's Day earlier in the week thanks to Marsha.) Josh and I decorated the house with a ton of balloons and streamers. Alex was so excited that he was having a party. The kids played with play dough and made posters that they decorated with paint, glitter, jewels, buttons, stickers, crayons, and markers. I was surprised how clean the house was after the party, I was expecting a HUGE mess, but they all did very well staying on the poster board.

A few days later Alex had a 2nd party with the family, he got a Cars flip out couch with a built in sleeping bag and a big boy backpack for school. It even has his name on it.

Josh and I decided it was time to do something special just with Alex. So, on Friday the three of us (Emi and Zoe stayed at camp.) went to Storyland. It was a great day. The weather was perfect and there were a lot of good times.

When we got to Storyland we walked over to the animal area, Alex loved the pigs. He also got to see goats, geese, and a bunny. Then we made our way to the boats and tea cups. We got in line to go on the tea cups, but they were a little loud for Alex. He didn't like all of the clanking, so we went on the carousel instead. We also tried to go on a swan boat ride, but that didn't work out either.

At this point things were moving pretty slowly, we were beginning to have our doubts, so we headed over to the antique cars. It was a good move. Josh waited in line, while Alex and I sat nearby to have a snack. When we finished our snack we met Josh in line. Alex was very excited to drive the car, and he did a good job driving.....that is until he saw a cow. After the cars, we took a train trip around the park. Alex was wanted to go on the Polar Coaster, I was surprised that he like it so much after the Tea Cups incident.

After lunch we headed over to the Log Flume. This was Alex's favorite ride, we ended up going on it twice. We also went on the River Rapids. It was a perfect ride, just the right amount of water, enough to cool down, but not to get soaked.

Then we went into a giant room full of foam balls that you can vacuum up and shoot out of air guns. I thought we were going to spend the rest of the day in there. Alex didn't want to leave.....until we told him he could go on more rides. We finished up our afternoon with the Twisting Turtles and the Flying Fish.

We left the park around 4:30 and made our way to Boston. (The city really needs to work on its signage.....or mapquest needs to update its directions.) When we got to the hotel we had a quick diner, (The new Kentucky Grilled Chicken is pretty good.) and a swim in the pool.

On Saturday we took the T from the hotel to the Aquarium. Alex LOVED the aquarium. He was really excited about the sharks, but also liked the turtles, penguins, and seals. Once he saw everything he was ready to go, so we headed home.

It was a great trip, we all had a wonderful time and look forward to more trips in the future. I'll be posting pictures as soon as Josh gets them off of his phone.

Well another 4th of July has come and gone.....

The kids, dog and I went to camp on Friday, (Josh had to work) we spent the day getting ready for company on Saturday. Alex has discovered fishing, he has caught a couple small fish, but if you ask him they're big. He also loves boat rides, and is always asking to go on a ride.

Saturday the gang made there way to camp, some of them even braved the hail and pouring rain. Overall it was a good day, just a couple of strong showers that passed fairly quickly. The kids enjoyed playing in the water, smores, and sparklers. Alex liked the fireworks around the lake until the neighbors set some off; they were a little close and he got scared. The rest of the group liked them as they went off right over our heads.

Sunday the kids and I stayed at camp for some more fun in the sun. Alex and Grampie did some fishing and we all enjoyed lunch out on the dock. Josh was good and headed home to mow the lawn (the yard doesn't look like a jungle anymore!) and then he went to play disc golf with the boys.

Josh, Alex, and I will be making a trip to Storyland and the New England Aquarium soon, stay posted for pictures.

Life Since January...

So I guess it is time to get caught up....

In February we celebrated Alex's 3rd birthday. We didn't have a big party, but it was still a good time. Alex was excited because he had three birthdays. One with just me, Josh, Emi, and Alex; one with us and the Farrars and Mimi, and another one with the Irvings. I hope he doesn't expect four parties next year. We got him a beta fish, which he loves to feed, but won't name. If we ask what the fish's name is he just shrugs his shoulders.

Josh, Marsha, and I went to see John Edward at Merrill Auditorium. We didn't get to talk to any dead people, but it was amazing to watch. It really make you wonder.....

March was a quiet month, just the usual....work, home, work, home, etc. As April rolled around, we celebrated Easter at my parent's house with a nice dinner. Marsha came down and spent the weekend with us too. The Easter Bunny was especially generous this year. Alex got a bike and Emi got a wagon, in addition to candy, clothes, and movies. It was like a mini-Christmas.

May was filled with wedding activities as the Hibbard - Cote wedding approached. Josh was a groomsmen in the wedding and I preformed the ceremony. I was very nervous, but once the ceremony started I was ok. The wedding was outside at Spring Meadow Golf Course in Gray. The ceremony went well, even when the Best Man dropped Sarah's ring, and the Maid of Honor forgot Derrick's ring! All was well as Derrick had his grandfather's ring, and Sarah's ring was recovered without incident. It was a very cute and funny moment that will be told in stories again and again.

The reception was also at Spring Meadow. There was a wonderful dinner and dancing that lasted into the night. After the reception the Farrar's hosted an after-party. I'm sure it was a great time, but by then I was pretty tired and took advantage of the couch to catch some zzzz's before Josh and I took the bride and groom back to the hotel.

In June Josh and I took our first vacation in years. Without the kids. We left on a Friday and drove to Connecticut, spent the night, and then drove to Philadelphia the following day. We spent two nights in Phili, it was a great time. We went to all of the tourist sights including the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. (You know, where Nicolas Cage found the glasses so he could read the treasure map.) It is amazing to be in the same place that our Founding Fathers were when they debated and signed the Declaration of Independence. We also saw Congress Hall which is were John Adams was sworn in a president.

While we were in Philadelphia we stayed at the historic Penn's View Hotel. It was a wonderful hotel. Our room was huge and we had a jacuzzi tub. They also served a buffet breakfast every morning which was yummy. On Saturday night we went to the Omni IMAX and saw Star Trek. I actually think the screen was too big. I had to keep turning my head so I wouldn't miss anything.

On Monday we left Philadelphia for Washington D.C. We stayed at the Latham Hotel in Georgetown, it is a "boutique" hotel. It was a nice place, but we like the Penn's View better. Our first night there we took a bus tour of the monuments at night. It was really pretty to see all of the monuments lit up. Tuesday we went to Arlington National Cemetery and saw JFK's grave and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The precision of the Guards is an amazing thing to watch. In the afternoon we had a tour of the Capital building. We also had our picture taken with Susan Collins, and road the mini-train from the Senate Office Building to the Capital Building. Wednesday we got up early and hiked around the Mall and Tidal Basin so we could check out all of the monuments. After that we went to the Natural History Museum and the Air & Space Museum, both were impressive. I especially liked the Air & Space Museum. We rode in a flight simulator, I'm a much better gunman than Josh is a pilot. (He might not agree, but he's not writing this.) It was also neat to see the space capsules from the Mercury and Apollo missions. On Thursday we were going to go to the Holocaust Museum, but it was closed do to a shooting. (I'm sure you saw coverage on the news.) So instead of the museum we went the Ford's Theater. The theater is still in use today, and they keep Lincoln's balcony the same as when he was assassinated. On Friday morning were got up early and were on the road home by 7:30. We (Josh) drove straight through to Maine. We only stopped for gas and food. We made great time and seemed to avoid rush hours in all of the major cities. We arrived home around 5 or 5:30.

Saturday we drove up to Augusta to get the kids and dog. It was so good to see them after a week apart!!!

Since getting back from our vacation we haven't done much, just the usual....work, home, work, home, etc. Although last weekend Josh and I bought a time share. What's a little more debt, right? So now we have to plan for our next vacation, this time I think we'll take the kids.

The 4th is coming up and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone at Auntie's camp, it will be a blast as long as the rain holds off. Keep your fingers crossed.

So I'll try to write again soon, and by soon I mean within the next six months.

The Long Over-due Update

Life has been very busy during the last year.......

Over the summer Josh started fencing in the yard. Now Zoe is free to roam a large chunk of the back yard without having to be on a leash. Josh has started working on the guest room, hopefully it won't take forever to finish. He made great progress last weekend....only a little bit of wiring and one wall to sheetrock then it's mine to finish. The only problem now is where to put all of the stuff we had been keeping in that room.

I'm enjoying my new job. I completed my first insurance class and have started my second class. I hope to have 2 additional courses completed by 2010. Once I've completed those courses I'll have to decide if I want to take underwriting classes or claims classes. I'm in no rush.....right now I love not having the responsibilities (and worries) that came with my previous jobs.

Alex is wonderful. He is keeping us BUSY. Potty training is going well, although lately he has had a few accidents. He as also started talking - finally! Although as most parents will tell you, once they start they don't stop......

Emi is also doing great. She started walking at 9 months old, just like her brother. I was hoping that she would wait a few more months, but she didn't think that was a good idea. Now that she has mastered walking, she has begun climbing. Josh found her on top of the play table last week (it's only 2 feet high), she was so proud of herself.

The holidays were wonderful. This year I went on the annual Burlington shopping trip and look forward to going again next year. Christmas was, as always, great....the children were thoroughly spoiled. It was also great to see everyone at the several holiday parties this year. New Year's was not very eventful for us. Josh ended up working from home most of the night and I was in bed at 9:30....the excitement never ends with us!

Soon we will be celebrating Emi's 1st birthday and Dedication, and Alex's birthday is right around the corner. I'll try to be more diligent about my postings; hopefully you won't have to wait another five months for an update.

This year we went to Larry and Hilary's house for a wonderful Easter dinner. We had a good time and Alex loved playing with his cousin Willie. Emily got to show off her Easter outfit that Auntie made and then relax in her other Easter outfit from Grammie Marsha.

Alex was a lucky boy this year, the Easter Bunny left him 2 baskets full of goodies, and he got a presents from Grammie Julie, Grampy, and Auntie. Emily also got an Easter basket and presents from the "grands", but she can't quite appreciate them the way Alex can.

So it has been nearly 3 weeks and we haven't put up any pictures.....the difference between one and two kids.....you still take the pictures, you just don't have time to get them from the camera to the computer.

Everything is going well. Alex is adjusting to his new little sister, if anything he likes her too much, we have to keep watch to make sure he doesn't try to pick her up or hug her too tightly. Emily is doing wonderfully, she is sleeping well, and is only up about twice a night.....the hard part is getting her to go to sleep. She really wants to be up from 10-12 each night, hopefully that will pass soon.

Emily had her first doctor's appointment yesterday and has already gained nearly a pound and grown half an inch. She is still tiny!!!!

On the Saturday after Thanksgiving Marsha threw me a wonderful shower. Emily got a lot of clothes, she is going to be the best dressed baby in Maine! This year Alex, Josh, Zoe and I traveled to Grammie Marsha's to spend Thanksgiving with her. This is the first time in years that I've had the day after Thanksgiving off....it was nice to be able to spend 4 days relaxing and not worrying about work. We had a great dinner, with some very yummy sweet potatoes.....everything was delicious, but I really liked the sweet potatoes, they tasted like candy. :)

On Friday Josh and I met Nicole and Warren for lunch at Governors Restaurant. It was great to see them, even if only for an hour or so. We got to catch-up on the latest news and gossip, fun for Nicole and I, maybe not for Warren and Josh. I also want to say CONGRATULATIONS to the happy couple. They are expecting their first baby in July.....a little brother or sister for Warren's daughter Amber. I think it will be a boy....I don't know why, but I have a feeling. :)

So Alex only used the potty for a few days. It seems it was just a phase, but that's ok with us. We don't want too much to change in his life right now considering a lot will be changing in January when we welcome his baby sister.

We have moved him into a "big boy bed". After the first few days he was fine going to bed, but those first few nights were very rough. It took over 2 hours to get him to go to sleep the first night, and we aren't sure he actually slept in the bed that night.

Now it is easier to get him to go to bed than when he was in the crib. (I don't have to lift him in and out of the crib anymore.) When we say "lets go to bed" he crawls right up into his bed and lays down for us......I don't know why but we have been so lucky. Maybe its a sign the the next one will be a terror. :)

Alex had a busy Halloween this year. We started out going on a “hayride” on October 28th with the folks from daycare. Alex didn’t like the idea of riding in the back of the tractor so Josh had to carry him around. We went to a few houses in the neighborhood and got some treats. It was good practice for the big night.

On Halloween Alex went trick-or-treating in Grammie Julie and Grampie Jim’s neighborhood. He had a great time! He covered a quarter of the block and was very good at saying “thank-you”, although “trick-or-treat” was a problem. He made out like a bandit…every house we went to gave him about 3 pieces of candy because there weren’t a lot of kids out. What a change in 20 years! When I used to cover the same neighborhood you had to fight your way up to houses because there were so many kids.

Milestones

It was a big week for Alex. He used the potty for the first time and got his first real haircut!

Much to our surprise Alex has decided he wants to use the potty. If he wants to go he takes Josh or me by the hand, goes down the hall and points to the potty. It is earlier than we expected, but as they say don’t look a gift horse in the mouth.

Alex also got his first haircut this week. After a routine check-up with the doctor (all is well) we went to Snip-Its for a trim. He got to watch a video and catch bubbles while a very nice lady cut his hair. He was good for about 5 minutes and then he started to squirm. He even got a certificate for his “courage and bravery”.

September 2nd was spent in Bangor celebrating the nuptials of Nicole and Warren. It was a beautiful summer day. They were married outside on the banks of the Penobscot River and a lovely reception followed at the Muddy Rudder.

I can't believe summer is over already......

Josh and I have been painting the outside of the house. A big thank-you to Dad and Larry for all of their help, without your help we wouldn't have made nearly as much progress. We still have some painting to do, hopefully 2 more weekends and we'll be done. It looks so much better already.

Alex has had a good summer. He got to spend a weekend in Charleston with Gram Higgins and he got to meet his Aunt Linda (on mom's side) for the first time. We are keeping our fingers crossed that she will move back to Maine. He also got to meet his cousins, Brian, Tracy, Tim, Jared, and Caitlin while they were visiting with Linda from the west coast.

Everything is going well with Becky's pregnancy, she is now nearly 20 weeks along.....that's halfway there! We have also found out that we are having a girl, the grandparents and aunts will have a ball shopping. The dilemma now is how do we decorate her nursery?

We are going to try and be more diligent about keeping the blog updated, but time goes so fast..... here are some pictures from the summer.

Spring News

Hello Everyone,

It’s been awhile since we updated the blog and here is the news from the past two months….

I was laid off at the end of March and spent April looking for a new job. Monday I will start working at a mortgage company as a loan processor. I’m very excited about the new opportunity because I’ll still be in the real estate field, but learning something new.

Josh is doing well, he is still with the same company, but a new position was recently created which he is in the process of moving into. He’ll be traveling to Indiana this month for some training, but will only be gone for 3 days.

Alex is doing great! He is really starting to climb now, so we have to watch him more now than ever. He really wants to climb the kitchen chairs so that he can get up on the table. I’ve enjoyed spending the last month with him while I’ve been home….if only we didn’t have to work!!! Maybe someday we’ll win the Power Ball.

There is also some sad news to report, Josh’s dad, Dennis, has been diagnosed with Cancer. Unfortunately it is throughout his lungs and neck. Please keep Dennis and Marsha in your prayers.

Well its finally done! After almost 2 years of start and stop the family room is finally done. Josh and I finished up this weekend with the addition of our new furniture. (A big thank-you to Derrick for the use of his truck and his excellent moving services.) And in case you were wondering Josh built the book cases around the windows and the entertainment center.

Chistmas

Christmas was good. It would have been better if Becky, Alex and Marsha weren't sick, but what can you do? Alex got plenty of toys and enough clothes to last a least a few weeks. :) The Holiday was split between the Grandparent's houses and Christmas dinner was spent at Larry and Hilary's house.

The weekend was wonderful, but hopefully next year we won't have to fight the flu.

We would also like to congratulate Jen and Steve-o on their engagement. It was a surprise for all of us, but we couldn't be happier.

Thanksgiving

We had a two part Thanksgiving. First we went to Gram Marsha and Gramp Dennis's house. Alex had a great time and his first real taste of Turkey. As you can see he had fun eating dinner.

On Thanksgiving Day we all went to Grammie Julie and Grampie Jim's for dinner. We had a great time, and Alex especially liked the pie.

Halloween

Since we haven't sent out any pictures since before the Holidays, we thought we would update everyone. Halloween was fun. Alex went to Grammie Julie and Grampie Jim's house for some trick-or-treating. He even had two costumes. During the day he was a Little Devil and for trick-or-treating he was Tigger.
